July 22–24, 2024
Extend your trip by joining an exclusive post-cruise tour in and around Barcelona, renowned for its unique architecture. The five-star Hotel Majestic, located on Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona’s most prestigious avenues, will be our home in the heart of the city.
Program:
Day One | Monday, July 22, 2024
Disembark and depart the pier via air-conditioned motor coach on a scenic drive through beautiful countryside before arriving at the Montserrat Monastery. The Benedictine abbey sits on the side of a mountain over 4,000 feet above sea level and is home to a revered statue known as the Virgin of Montserrat, patron saint of Catalonia. Attend a recital by the Escolania boys choir, one of the oldest choirs in Europe. Visit the Montserrat Monastery Museum, which houses an extensive collection of artifacts, art, and historical relics.
Travel to Masia Castellarnau, a renovated fourteenth-century estate, and enjoy a lunch featuring Catalonian cuisine prepared with locally-sourced ingredients.
Following lunch, return to Barcelona for a brief panoramic tour of the city. See Placa Catalunya, site of key events during the Spanish Civil War, and then continue on to view Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, modernist buildings designed by architect Antoni Gaudí.
Arrive at the hotel for check-in with the remainder of the evening and dinner on your own.
Day Two | Tuesday, July 23, 2024
Following breakfast at the hotel, depart via air-conditioned motor coach for Sagrada Família. Antoni Gaudí’s most famous work, construction of the church began in 1882 and continues today. Continue on to Parc Güell. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, the park is known for its colorful mosaic tiles, whimsical structures, and panoramic views. Our tour will visit the gatehouse where Gaudí lived during his later years, now a museum dedicated to his work.
Enjoy a group lunch at the Hotel Palace Barcelona in the Gran Via Ballroom. Following lunch, classicist and military historian Victor Davis Hanson will speak on the topic: “Barcelona and the Spanish Civil War.”
