Extend your trip by joining an exclusive post-cruise tour in and around Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia renowned for its unique architecture. Located on Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona’s most prestigious avenues, the five-star Hotel Majestic will be our home in the heart of the city.

Program:

Day One | Monday, July 22, 2024

Disembark and depart the pier via air-conditioned motor coach for a visit to Parc Güell. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, the park is known for its colorful mosaic tiles, whimsical structures, and panoramic views. Our tour will visit the gatehouse where Gaudí lived during his later years, now a museum dedicated to his work.

Continue on to Sagrada Família. Indisputably architect Antoni Gaudí’s most famous work, the church began construction in 1882 and continues today. Enjoy a guided tour inside the basilica, which is intricately decorated with incredible stone columns, vaulted ceilings, and prismatic stained-glass windows.

Enjoy a group lunch in our private room at the historic and elegant Hotel Majestic. Following lunch, renowned classicist and author Victor Davis Hanson will speak on the topic: “The Spanish Civil War.”

Victor Davis Hanson is the Wayne and Marcia Buske Distinguished Fellow in History at Hillsdale College, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, a professor of classics emeritus at California State University, Fresno, and a nationally syndicated columnist for Tribune Media Services. He has written for several publications, including The Wall Street Journal, the Claremont Review of Books, The New Criterion, and the Daily Telegraph. A recipient of the National Humanities Medal and the Bradley Prize, he is the author of numerous books, including The Soul of Battle: From Ancient Times to the Present Day, How Three Great Liberators Vanquished Tyranny; The Second World Wars: How the First Global Conflict Was Fought and Won; The Dying Citizen: How Progressive Elites, Tribalism, and Globalization Are Destroying the Idea of America; and The End of Everything: How Wars Descend into Annihilation (forthcoming).

After lunch, check in to the hotel for the remainder of the evening and dinner on your own.

Day Two | Tuesday, July 23, 2024

Following breakfast at the hotel, depart Barcelona via air-conditioned motor coach. Enjoy a scenic drive through beautiful countryside before arriving at the Montserrat Monastery. The Benedictine abbey sits on the side of a mountain over 4,000 feet above sea level and contains the most revered image in Catalonia, the Virgin of Montserrat patron saint of the Catalan people. Attend a recital by the Escolania, one of the oldest choirs in Europe, and visit the abbey’s museum.

Enjoy lunch in our private room at Masia Castellarnau, a renovated fourteenth-century estate. Following lunch, return to Barcelona where the remainder of the evening and dinner is on your own.

Day Three | Wednesday, July 24, 2024

Following breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Inclusions: Package includes two nights at the five-star Hotel Majestic, Deluxe Room, with daily breakfast, two lunches, two days of sightseeing, lecture by Victor Davis Hanson, transfers, porterage, gratuities, tax, and the assistance of post-cruise staff.
